Human evolution – new theories
Human evolution kicks into high gear – Science- msnbc.com.
This is a very interesting article on new research and theories into human evolution. A great read and a nice long article.
It deals with some controversial topics like genetic differences associated with cultures, populations, etc… Should bring up some interesting discussion. Let’s get to it!
Titanoboa!
Newsvine – Ancient fossil find: This snake could eat a cow.
Titanoboa, what a great name!
Seriously, an extinct snake species 45 feet long and that weighed 2,500 pounds!?
Look at that things vertebra compared to a 17ft boa! Damn! Paleontology is so bad ass…
Largest marine reptile ever discovered
Now this is a cool series of finds! Found on Spitspergen in 2006 and excavated in August 2007. A Jurassic treasure trove of marine reptiles, including a 50 foot long pliosaur that is a new species (pic). This thing had flippers that were over 10 feet long. Amazing!
Other marine reptiles such as pleisiosaurs, ichthyosaurs, and another pliosaur that is potentially as big as the first were also found in the same formation. It is very exciting to hear of Arctic discoveries like this, because it gives greater potential for other Arctic, maybe even Alaskan finds of marine reptiles
Velociraptor feathers confirmed
Scientists today announced confirmation that Velociraptor had feathers. Paleontologists found quill knobs on Velociraptor femurs, confirming that the Cretaceous predators had feathers and are absolutely related to birds. There have been some awesome Paleo finds recently… This is another one of those. Great stuff! Scope the quill knob pics for the evidence. (more…)
Hadrosaur mummy
In the totally awesome category… A hadrosaur mummy find in North Dakota has been announced today that is absolutely spectacular. Follow the link for the Nat Geo article. A show detailing the excavation will air on Dec 9th and 9/10pm on National Geographic Channel. Scope the pic of the beasts skin impression below. Truly awesome!

8′ long Devonian Sea Scorpion
I always love a cool new Paleo discovery. Coming out of Bristol, U.K., an 8 foot long, 390 million year-old (Devonian) sea scorpion, the biggest insect ever found! That would surely make some sweet crab legs perhaps… Scope the article, this thing was massive!
