To Squarespace and back again

It sure has been a while… I’ve taken a jaunt into the Squarespace world as some of you may have know for the past 2 months, but now I’m back. Back to Wordpress. Sqaurespace is an amazing product, I just couldn’t get the flexibilty and features out of it that I needed to take the site to a new level – yet even match the current version of Wordpress. So, I’ve come back to Wordpess (happily) and now am enjoying the virtues of the recently released Blackberry App for Wordpress. I’ve been waiting for this app for a while. Let the games begin.

Redoubt volcanic ash hits Kincaid beach

Yesterday started out as an innocent trip to Kincaid beach – after about an hour it turned into a volcanic ash showdown! Ash from Redoubt volcano hit Anchorage and came in off of Cook Inlet right at Kincaid beach.

You can see the ash starting to choke out the sun as it roars in from the inlet… The air instantly started to stink of sulphur as little ash pellets started to plink off of my hat and accumulate on my camera. I had to get out of there quickly as the ash continued to rain down at a quicker and quicker pace. Soon the cloud was directly overhead nearly blocking the sun…

As I moved swiftly back to my car (which was a good 30 minutes away) I could feel the ash between my teeth when I bit down.

I stopped to snap a shot of the ash particles starting to accumulate where the ski-groomer had recently perforated the snow.

I got back to my car to find about 1/8″ of ash already covering it… it was time to get the hell out of Kincaid! I got back home and set up some collection canisters and this morning woke up to about a teaspoon of ash in one. Job well done, until next time Redoubt…

Redoubt eruption photos

As you may have heard… Redoubt volcano has been erupting like made lately…

Most days have been obscured from photos by clouds, but there were some stellar pics taken from overflights and viewpoints yesterday. Let me just say that it is AMAZING to live in a place with such an awesome geologic force going on right now! I am seriously thinking about a drive to Clam Gulch or Kenai tomorrow to take some photos of my own. Until then – enjoy this shot (from the AVO) and even more from the AVO.

BLUE FACTOR- 80% Having Babies

You know, there are a lot of news stories that shouldn’t be news stories and the one about the lady who had 8 babies in addition to her 6 kids is definitely one of them. I’ve never met her, I don’t know her, but I can say she is probably a complete idiot. Who the hell has 8 kids when they already have 6? I guess it would be another story if there was a husband involved, or anyone else at all. But this waste of a human being is single, makes her mom take care of her already six kids and provides no cash to support them. In fact, she has no clear income whatsoever and collects $480 a month in food stamps. If you aren’t outraged by this bitch, consider this, she’s asking for online donations to help support her litter of kids.
But lets be honest, while this is one of the dumbest people I have ever heard of, the real victims are the kids. They have to live in poverty because lets face it, their mom will never amount to anything. Oh and let’s not forget the fact that your tax dollars will be spent supporting her family!
