Nokia E51 200.34.36 firmware & BlackBerry Connect
So today firmware 200.34.36 came out for the Nokia E51 and I proceeded to immediately upgrade. There still are no release notes available, but I will post them in the comments when they do. So far no news sites have picked up on this release for some reason…
The firmware has to be downloaded via Nokia Software Updater (Windows only).

My main concern after updating??? Does my BlackBerry Connect still work? It does, but I had to uninstall version 7.45.1 and then install version 8.14.1 via Nokia Business Software Downloads in order to get it operational again. The steps to do this for the E51 are to select your region (select Americas), operator (select *Other), Phone (select E90), then download version 8.14.1 of BlackBerry Connect and install it onto your E51. After I re-added my IMEI number into BlackBerry online setup my account was back up and running flawlessly!
Version 200 firmware notes that I have: menu navigation, startup, and application launching and performance all seem faster. Also EDGE speed and web browsing seems much speedier too. I haven’t noticed any other changes except NOT having a single issue of unstable software. My E51 has been running like a champ since the update. So download the firmware and make sure to update BlackBerry connect and you should be good to go. Enjoy!

After the update, do you have to reinstall all your software?
Thanks

Hi guys!
I’ve been so happy reading this topic, so i asup tried to upgrade the to the lastest fw (200….)
But i got this msg on the Nokia Updater site:
Latest available software for Nokia E51, product code 0557937
Version: 150.34.15
Compare numbers
If this version is greater than your current software version, update now to get the latest features, applications and improvements. Go to Nokia Software Updater download
How can i upgrade to 200.34.36 ?
thanks in advance!
June 26th, 2008 at 12:13 ami’ve tried to install this update and it crashed my laptop 3 times!!! how come?
July 2nd, 2008 at 1:18 ami have an e51(16.1). i ran it using winXP. i have version 100.34.20 RM-244
Not sure about the crashing issues people are having, just make sure you have the latest version of Nokia Software Updater and try from there… Battery life for me was not bad considering the alternatives. Now I have moved on to a BlackBerry though, so my S60 days are done.
July 6th, 2008 at 11:56 amWell done Skub…. I just upgraded to version 2 of the firmware only to find my BB Connect would not work… but after reading your advice I downloaded the newer 8.14.1 version instead of the 7.45.1 that I used to use and it worked a treat… I am back in Nokia Blackberry land again. Yipeee..
If anyone else is having issues with installing BB Connect just follow Skub’s advice I can vouch for it working well.
And it seems a little faster now as well ;o)

I have moved on to the new Nokia E71 now and what a great phone, good battery life and feature rich, however Nokia in there wisdom have made it so that BB connect will not go on it, so unless they unblock the software in the firmware it looks like I will have to use the Microsoft Activesync for Exchange, which I must say works as well as the BB connect software, the other advantage is that now my calander and tasks & contacts are also updated and linked, I can also send pictures as attachments, which the BB connect did not allow.
So for those die hards that are still trying to use the BB connect on a Nokia device, I would say to them try the Activesync for Exchange if you have the option as it works very well and can do more than the BB connect, the BB connect does format the email display far better though, but this is a small price to pay for the extra functionality you will gain.
I thought it was going to be a right pigs ear to setup, however if you have Exchange 2003 or 2007 in your organisation it is so simple a 5 year old could do it, and as a spin off I have other devices using it as well now like my iPod Touch etc.
let me know if you want any guidance for the under 5’s ;o)

October 13th, 2008 at 11:59 pmHello all, I’m note sure why there are random successes/problems getting this to work properly… I’ve since long moved on to a blackberry device so cannot confirm additional testing on problem issues…
